Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: What is it?
Jeffery Mueller, M.D. • July 1, 2021

Medical advancement seems to grow and evolve every more each day. Things that we are able to understand today, and how we are able to implement new technology to better grasp the complexity of science had not even begun to resemble what we had imagined a few decades ago. In some of those recent finding, professionals have started to learn that the body actually has the ability to heal itself. Think of when you receive a papercut. That injury begins to heal back through new skin growth.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy applies this form of regenerative medicine that is able to amplify the body’s natural growth elements to heal tissue. Plasma is made up by the liquid portions of our blood through large portions of water and protein. It is what provides transportation to all of the red and white blood cells and platelets that circulate throughout the body. Platelets are also known as thrombocytes, are blood cells as well. These can cause blood clots which is a vital component and role in growth and the body’s natural healing course.

Through the process of PRP, or platelet-rich plasma therapy, a patient is injected with a concentrate of their own platelets to help accelerate the healing of ligaments, muscles, tendons and joints that have been injured. By extracting a few tubes of the patient’s blood, it is then run through a sort of filtration system to separate the platelets from the remainder of your blood.  Using these injections with your specific blood and platelets helps to improve the musculoskeletal problems.

Once run through a centrifuge, and in a more condensed form, the platelets are then released back into you through the injured and/ or diseased tissue. They will then begin to discharge growth factors, stimulating and increasing the amount of reparative cells that your body already naturally produces.

PRP has been proven to significantly increase the healing process, improve major function, and reduce pain. Platelet-rich therapy has been known to work for:

·        Rotator cuff tears

·        Achilles tendon ruptures

·        Soft-tissue injuries

·        Tendonitis / chronic tendonitis

·        Tennis elbow

·        Golfer’s elbow

·        Torn tendons

·        Muscle injuries

·        Joint pain

·        Arthritis related pain

Since platelet-rich plasma therapy works amazing in so many different aspects, doctors have also found other uses for this regenerative material as well in the form of cosmetic procedures. By using PRP to help renew and regrow injured and damaged cells, doctors have found that they are useful in the reduction wrinkles and even hair loss.

These injections can help to eliminate the dependence on stronger medications such as anti-inflammatories and opioids. Because it is harvested from your own body, the risk of side effects are very low. Your body will typically not react badly or reject anything that itself produced. The human brain is a fascinating organ that is so complex that we are still learning new things about it each day. Our brains are made up of billions of neurons, which are cells that send and receive messages from and to all over different parts of the body. When these messages are sent, they are transmitted as electrical urges that create brain waves. To help improve those constant communications between different regions of the body, it is important to study these brain waves, and neurological impulses. In order to study and collect this data a brain map is used, which helps to evaluate neuron messages. This mapping also helps to recognize opportunities to increase those communications between different regions. These maps are able to capture a timeline of brain activity, which can then be used to analyze the data, and create a visual illustration of each brain lobe and region along with each specific brain wave. The four brainwaves are Delta (Sleepy, Dreaming), Theta (Drowsy, Meditative), Alpha (Relaxed, Reflective), and Beta (Alert, Working). Brain mapping is an easy procedure where the patient places a cap on their head, covering the scalp with detectors that capture the electrical impulses in the brain which is known as electroencephalogram (EEG). The brain wave patterns are then recorded and the data will be transformed into a visual brain map report. NewroLogix uses these similar methods to help create a body/brain balancing program that produces true, whole body balance. By incorporating Brain Avatar by Brainmaster, it features the most current live EEG readings and data collection on the market today. NewroLogix uses neurofeedback protocols in order to train the brain into becoming balanced. So how can you be sure your brain states are off-balanced? Many factors can be contributed to a block or an imbalance of brain activity such as changes in concentration/ focus, learning, reading, listening, writing, focus, behavior and other cognitive states. If any of these states are imbalanced, our minds naturally produce brain wave patterns and routines. Sometimes these patterns are only produced in order to keep you going, and avoid any unfamiliar territory. NewroLogix Neurofeedback is an amazing way to make the changes to our brain patterns that help dictate our cognitive abilities and daily behaviors. With over 20 years of clinical research and study, NewroLogix Neurofeedback protocols have been scientifically proven in academia, among other clinical settings, as an easy-to-read report of brain wave activity and how best to correct misdirected, or imbalanced signals. With personal out of view, one on one guidance, minimal distractions are important in these 30 minute training sessions. NewroLogix examines bodily systems through advanced testing, striving to create a balanced system. These tests will help to understand your body’s overall health including metabolism, stress hormones, immune-relates responses, and neurotransmitters. By bringing the body and mind into balance, your daily behaviors and cognitive abilities may seem more in tune and function together better.
